This was such a fun project. I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting roses but this was my first time trying to render a rose in digital media. I went on ahead and decided to try to go all-out with gradient meshes instead of using shapes of flat colors. I’m pretty happy with the results, even though gradient meshes can be a real challenge to work with, they’re just so easy to overdo. You start adding points on the mesh and before you know it you just have a total rat’s nest.
I have so many ideas for posters right now. I’ve started working on one that was spurred on by the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday but it’s not holiday-specific, it just generally approaches the topic of love, hopefully in a non-cheesy way. Once I’m settled in San Francisco I want to screenprint it. It’ll make its debut here on this blog when it’s done.
